HELLO FROM OUR MAYOR

Screen Shot 2020-11-01 at 6.58.15 PM.png

Welcome to Barnesville, our home at the foot of Sugarloaf Mountain. There are three elected officials for the town serving on a voluntary basis, and we strive to make a difference in the daily life of our approximately 160 citizens. We do everything that municipal government is supposed to do — provide a governing structure that includes planning and zoning, keep the street lights on and the traffic under control as best we can, solve problems with county and state officials and our elected representatives and make sure our tax dollars are invested wisely in things that matter to the citizens.

But even more important than that, we do our best to preserve the character and culture of our small rural village in the heart of Montgomery County’s Agricultural Reserve. We love that we have agriculture and nature all around us and yet good access to both Washington and Frederick for work and entertainment. We have many families in Barnesville with generations of deep roots here while others have come to plant new roots. We are a wonderful mix of history and promise, young people and wiser ones, all of us very happy to enjoy what is so special about living in the agricultural reserve with the splendor of Sugarloaf Mountain at our doorsteps and the brighter lights of the capital of our nation just a MARC train ride away.
